Surrender

By Michael J. Brand

I was in that place, where no one wants to be
Alone, seeking proof, there was better in me

A dull ache in my throat, stayed throughout the night
The suffering in my world, didn’t seem right

The ultimatum was clear, I had to choose
The ego or flesh, which one would I lose.

I was faced with two options, both required death
But only one, would take my last breath

The voice in my head, the flesh you must take
My soul spoke softly, it would be a mistake

I was armed with nothing, only my gun
No friends, no money, life was no fun

The clock stopped ticking, time had run out
A decision had to be made, without any doubt

I would fall to the earth, and die as I bleed
Or, surrender to God, for my soul to be freed

I removed the barrel, from beneath my chin
The decision was made, my soul would win
